MARINE RIDERS OF LAS VEGAS
Chapter Bylaws
The purpose of this document is to specify the rules and code of conduct for the Marine Riders of Las Vegas. As agreed upon by the general membership, these rules and bylaws will be minimal and brief, in order to facilitate the purpose of the Marine Riders: "To ride together and have fun.".
- The overall chapter of the Marine Riders shall be governed by two terms that every Marine, past or present, understands: "Semper Fidelis" and "Esprit d'Corps.".
- The General bylaws of the Marine Riders shall be those of the Greater Nevada Detachment of the Marine Corps League, with the following exceptions and/or additions:
- The Riders are open to all active, reserve and veteran Marines and FMF Corpsmen. Discharges must be "General" or better. Bad Conduct or Dishonorable are not eligible.
- Riders are open to all makes of motorcycles and motorized tricycles. The ability to maintain highway speed is desired.
- All members of the Marine Riders are encouraged to be be full members of the "Marine Corp League.".
- Membership dues for the Marine Riders shall be $25.00 per year. "Charter members" (those who were members of the Riders when the original charter was filed, 30 April 2002) shall have the option of purchasing a "Life Membership" for $100.00.
- The officers of the Marine Riders have been selected to serve by the membership. They serve the Riders at the pleasure of the membership. On an as needed basis, officers may be appointed but must be approved by a simple majority the members present and voting.
- Elections for officers of the Marine Riders shall be held every two years beginning in March of 2008 and every other year thereafter. Nominations will be accepted at the February meeting and also from the floor at the March meeting for 'write-in' candidates. Elections will be held at the general membership meeting in March and shall be by secret ballot. Officers shall serve a term of two years.
- Elections may be held to replace an officer if deemed necessary by a 2/3 majority of the members present and voting at any general meeting when the issue is brought up. The election, if approved, will be held at the next regularly scheduled general meeting. Nominations will be accepted at the meeting when the issue was approved and from the floor at the election night meeting. The candidate receiving a simple majority of the members present and voting will assume the office.
- All other election procedures shall be in accordance with the By Laws of the Greater Nevada Detachment 186 of the Marine Corps League.
- Proposed additions or changes to the bylaws of the Marine Riders shall be presented in writing to the Riders at any monthly scheduled meeting. A vote will be taken to determine if the proposed changes or additions will be presented to the general membership. A simple majority of the members present and voting is required for passage. If approved, the proposed changes will be voted on by the general membership at the next regularly scheduled meeting. All additions or changes require a 2/3 majority of the members present and voting for ratification.
